From My Journal from the Dominican Mission Trip

I'm waiting for church. It's neat to walk around the camp and see people in devotion and prayer. I wonder why everyday can't be like this, prayer, fellowship, there's community here. There's community as well among the team. Back in the States we go to work and then back to our houses. It feels like hiding at times. The next day we do it again so we can earn money to live in the houses we are hiding in. Where does our spiritual growth come from, our fellowship with others? What if we were like the church in Acts and shared in everything? What does that look like for 2010? What if we were truly the army of Christ (bunking together if you will) moving out into the community with the Gospel like it was the most important thing for that day? I know, I'm dreaming, it happens alot on mission trips.

Maybe we can restore some of that sense of community as we continue to pray for Dustin and his family. Please pray also for Bill and Dustin and myself as we continue to see what God would have in store for Project 52 for the days are short and we want to make a difference. We have all learned the hard way that life is too short. Let us remember why we are here and the impact we can leave through the Spirit's work in us of making everyday count.

I still can see the community and I miss it, but I know I saw and experienced it for a reason. Maybe its not a dream.

In Christ,
Pastor John

Isn’t it funny how people have all those big houses and what we really want, what we really like is when we are together cramped in a small place and just being with each other, helping each other. You don’t even have to ask for someone to help you with something on a mission trip, they are there before you can ask asking you if you need any help, and most of the time they don’t even ask, they just do.

Pastor, your not dreaming, we Can take the Gospel out into the community because it Is the most important thing for this day, we need to do it together, all of us, we just need “to do”. I pray and will continue to pray for Dustin and his family. I will also be praying for you, Bill, Dustin and how God is going to impact others thru Project 52.

Thanks, Sandy, for saying what I am thinking. I struggle many days wondering what our Christian community is "doing" to serve God right here where I live. Going to church on Sundays is nothing without our actions to follow through the rest of the week.

I was just visiting a 98 year old friend today. She was telling me how much her prayer life has increased and how important it is. Granted, she has more time "on her hands" now that her daily life is more simplified. But she really gets it! Jesus said to Pray without ceasing. I am praying that the Holy Spirit will fill my heart and each day will be filled with love and caring for each of God's children... sharing the Good News of Christ crucified.

Project 52 is making a difference! May God give its leaders and all servants more wonderful opportunities in 2010.

Colleen,
We should all learn from your friend. We need to pray now, we need to act now. Who knows if we will even be around tomorrow. Your so right, what good is going to church on Sunday if we keep it to ourselves? I'm pretty sure that is not what God wants us to do.
